Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau, has kicked off celebrations to mark the country’s 150th birthday amid heavy security as a lot of citizens braved incessant rain and long delays to reach the major site in the country’s capital.
About 500,000 people were expected to be in Ottawa for the long-anticipated Canada Day festivities, which features a large outdoor celebration in front of the national parliament, complete with acrobats, fireworks and musicians, inclunding Bono and other members of Irish rock band U2.
Trudeau, accompanied by Prince Charles, shook hands with some of the thousands of revellers who converged in Ottawa for the festivities.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) welcomed ministers and senior officials from Quebec, Morocco and other ICAO Member States before this month for a incomparable High-Level Economic Forum on Morocco's growing potential as a travel and tourism hub.
Based on the theme of: "Morocco: An Engine for Regional and Continental Development", the appropriate one-day event was organized by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco with assistance by the North African National's Canadian Embassy. High-level dignitaries present included Lahcen Haddad, Minister of Tourism for Morocco, Nouzha Chekrouni, Morocco's Ambassador to Canada, Pascal Bérubé, Quebec Minister of Tourism, and Raymond Benjamin, ICAO Secretary General. As well in attendance were Ben Harouna Ibrahim, Burkina Faso's Ambassador to Canada, Ambassador Goutondji Comlan Pamphile of the Republic of Benin, Ambassador Nancy N'diaye Ngom of Senegal and Ambassador Traore Ami Diallo of Mali.
