  • Four LatAm countries could auction 700MHz spectrum in 2014 – 4G Americas

ARGENTINA, 2013/10/15 Four nations in Latin America could auction spectrum in the 700MHz band next year, according to a statement by 4G advocacy group 4G Americas. Most regulators in the region have expressed interest in auctioning 700MHz spectrum for mobile broadband services, but face the challenge of guaranteeing that these frequencies are free from interference, as in a lot of markets, analog TV signals must be migrated to a digital format in order to free up spectrum in the 700MHz band for use by mobile services. The Chilean government is expected to auction spectrum in the 700MHz band in February of next year, according to telecoms regulator Subtel.
  • Mexico is a good location for IT

MEXICO, 2013/06/12 Next a disappointing year in 2009 in the midst of a weak external economic environment, Mexico’s IT services and business process outsourcing (BPO) industries are again expanding at a rapid pace. According to the new available data from investment and export promotion agency ProMexico, both sectors experienced a slowdown in 2009, with combined annual revenues falling by 19.7% to $4.9bn. However, sales bounced back in 2010, reaching $6.1bn, followed by a further development to $6.5bn in 2011.
  • Mexico yet to reach 100% mobile penetration at end-2012

MEXICO, 2012/12/29 Despite mobile penetration levels of over 100% in most of Latin America's major markets, Mexico is still struggling to hit this symbolic milestone at the end of 2012. Nations such as Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil are seen leading mobile penetration in the region, with levels exceeding 130% in each of those nations at the end of Q3. Ecuador had mobile penetration of 113% at that time, while Colombia reached 107% and Venezuela 102%. Peru saw its mobile penetration level hit 99% at the end of Q3, and that figure is expected to reach 100% by the end of the year.
  • Another stab at radical change in telecommunications

MEXICO, 2012/12/29 Mexico's telecoms sector is on the verge of an overhaul designed to make the industry competitive. That is the promise, at least, of a sweeping package of measures agreed to by the three leading political parties in the Pact for Mexico signed December 2. Industry analysts are optimistic about the prospects for change.
