  • Tajikistan’s road infrastructure to be ugraded

    TAJIKISTAN , 2014/12/25 The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and international donors will provide a financing package worth over $5 million for critical maintenance of Tajikistan’s national road network. A loan worth $2.54 million and a capital grant from a multi-donor fund worth $2.54 million will be provided to expand an existing road maintenance project to which has by presently received a $4 million loan from the EBRD and a $2 million grant from the government of the Netherlands, EBRD said on December 23.
  • Kazakhstan to receive new pipes for Kashagan

    KAZAKHSTAN, 2014/11/08 The new pipes for Kazakhstan's giant Kashagan field in the Caspian Sea is planned to be delivered till the end of the initial quarter of 2015. The news was announced by the country's Deputy Energy Minister Uzakbai Karabalin. "The pipes will be delivered from presently on," Karabalin told reporters. "The pipes will be probably delivered before the end of the initial quarter of 2015 so that it would be possible to work. Repair work at the field will be completed in 2016, as it was before reported." He as well noted to date, the contractors have bought about 45 kilometers of pipes.
  • Japan has signed agreement to support Chipuputa dispensary in Nanyumbu

    JAPAN, 2014/03/19 JAPAN has signed a 133,436 US dollar (about 200m/-) agreement to support construction of Chipuputa dispensary in Nanyumbu district and equipment supply to Nanjota dispensary in Masasi district, both in Mtwara region. Japanese Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Masaki Okada, said in Dar es Salaam that the donation was part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP), adding that scheme supports community-participatory projects proposed by local government authorities and non-governmental organizations. "The funds are given to the recipient organization next an examination and evaluation of each application by the Japanese government on a project basis," said the envoy at the arrangement signing ceremony.
  • ECOWAS improve its infrastructure

    CHINA, 2014/02/14 In line with its commitment to contribute to the integration and development of the West African region, China says it is considering to assist ECOWAS improve its infrastructure. The Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Zhou Shanginq, reaffirmed this commitment during a courtesy call on the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Kadre Desire Ouedraogo, on Tuesday at the ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, the Nigerian capital. Mr. Zhou identified infrastructure as an significant spur for development which enjoys the greatest attention by his country and which explained why a 10-member Chinese delegation of construction experts and economists is in the region for wide ranging consultations on how the region can be supported to improve this sector.
  • Japanese government plans reconstruction road in Mozambique

    JAPAN, 2013/12/01 The Japanese government plans to provide US$68 million for reconstruction of 90 kilometres of the Mandimba-Lichinga road in Mozambique’s Niassa province, under the terms of an agreement signed Thursday in Maputo. The project, which will be carried out by the National Roads Government, is split into two sections, the initial of which – Cuamba to Massangulo – is funded by the African Development Bank (ADB) and the second – Massangulo to Lichinga – has funding from the Japanese International Development Agency (JICA).
  • Vietnam and Laos bauxite transport pipe construction approved

    LAOS, 2013/10/10 The Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee has allowed the Vietnam Import Export and Construction Corporation (Vinaconex) and its Lao partner the Laos Minerals Company, to build a pipe to transport bauxite from the Laos to the Chu Lai Economic Zone. According to Vinaconex, the bauxite mine in Sekong and Attapeu plateaus are at a height of about 1,150 meters with reserves of 300 million tons of ore. The pipe to transport bauxite to Vietnam will be about 240 kilometers and will be designed at the highest standards of the pipeline manufacturing industry.

    THAILAND, 2013/08/26  At the same time as a bridge over the river connecting their villages collapsed, people in Sangkhla Buri decided to build their own floating bridge from bamboo, and the new wooden bridge was completed in record time. A great example of what can be completed by villagers with a “can do” attitude. The newly-completed floating bridge links the two banks of Song Kalia River in Kanchanaburi, next the Saphan Mon bridge collapsed.
  • Survey urges new strategies to address rapid urbanization

    EUROPE, 2013/07/04 A UN survey released on Tuesday in Geneva, says without fresh ideas to address rapid urbanization, the number of people living in slums lacking access to basic infrastructure and services such as sanitation, electricity and health care may skyrocket from one billion at present to three billion by 2050. The warning was contained in the UN World Economic and Social Survey 2013, which focuses this year on sustainable development and the challenges facing its economic, social and environmental dimensions. According to the survey, the vision of promoting economic and social well-being while protecting the environment had not been completed due to rising inequality, gaps and shortfalls in development partnerships, rapid people increase, climate change and environmental degradation.

On May 15, Moody’s announced it was maintaining a stable outlook on the Malaysian banking sector for the next 12 to 18 months. The ratings agency said its assessment was based on an expectation of favourable operating conditions, inclunding high levels of capitalisation.
